OpenAI has introduced new personal finance tools for ChatGPT Pro users in the United States. The preview feature was launched on Friday. It allows users to connect their bank accounts and manage financial information directly through ChatGPT.
The new feature is designed to help users better understand their money. It can provide insights into spending habits, investments, bills, and future financial planning.
To make account linking possible, OpenAI has partnered with Plaid. This service supports connections with over 12,000 financial institutions. These include Charles Schwab, Fidelity Investments, Chase, Robinhood, American Express, and Capital One.
After linking accounts, users can access a dashboard inside ChatGPT. This dashboard displays portfolio performance, monthly spending, active subscriptions, upcoming payments, and other account details.
Users can also ask financial questions in simple language. For example, they can check if spending has increased recently. They can also ask how to prepare for buying a house within the next five years.
OpenAI said more than 200 million people already use ChatGPT each month for financial questions. The company added that GPT 5.5 offers stronger contextual reasoning. This helps provide better answers for personal finance discussions.
Connecting accounts is simple. Users can open the “Finances” option in the sidebar and click “Get started.” They can also type “@Finances, connect my accounts” in a conversation. ChatGPT then guides them through the secure linking process.
OpenAI also plans to support Intuit soon. This could help users review tax outcomes and check credit-related possibilities.
The company has also added privacy controls. Users can remove linked accounts anytime through settings. OpenAI said synced financial data will be deleted within 30 days after disconnection.
The launch follows OpenAI’s recent acquisition of the team behind Hiro, a personal finance startup. This shows the company’s focus on expanding ChatGPT into specialized areas.
