LAHORE โ Students at Government College University (GCU) Lahore have raised strong concerns over a sharp increase in the Semester Fee for summer and repeat subjects.
According to student reports, the per-subject Semester Fee has increased from Rs. 6,000 to Rs. 15,000. The change was reportedly introduced without proper advance notice from the administration.
This sudden revision has created financial stress for many students. Those who need to repeat multiple subjects are facing even higher costs. The increased Semester Fee is now seen as a major burden for struggling families.
Students said the new structure could significantly raise total expenses. A student repeating two subjects may now pay between Rs. 30,000 and Rs. 45,000. For some, the cost may be even higher depending on the number of courses.
Many students have expressed frustration over the decision. They believe such a major change in Semester Fee policy should have been communicated earlier. Lack of transparency has added to their concerns.
Students also highlighted that economic conditions are already difficult. They said unexpected financial pressure is making it harder to continue their education. The revised Semester Fee has therefore sparked widespread dissatisfaction on campus.
Several students have called on the university administration to review the decision. They urged authorities to reconsider the revised Semester Fee structure and provide relief where possible.
They also warned that higher academic costs could discourage students from repeating essential courses. This may negatively impact their academic progress and future opportunities.
Student representatives emphasized that education should remain accessible. They said sudden increases in Semester Fee charges risk excluding deserving students from higher education.
The issue has gained attention within the university community, with growing demands for clarification. Students are now waiting for an official response from the administration.
