Islamia College Peshawar Suspends 3 Students Over Female Lecturer Harassment Case

PESHAWAR โ€“ The administration of Islamia College Peshawar has suspended three students for two weeks after a harassment and misconduct complaint filed by a female lecturer.

According to an official notification, a preliminary inquiry by the disciplinary committee found the three students involved in the incident. The students have also been banned from entering Islamia College until the committee announces its final decision.

The case emerged after lecturer Gul Rukh submitted a formal complaint to the vice chancellor of Islamia College. In her complaint, she accused several students of harassment, intimidation, and misconduct during a class test.

The lecturer stated that the incident took place on May 12 during a second-semester Botany class test. She claimed that several male students refused to attempt the test and tried to stop other students from participating as well.

According to her complaint, the students tore the test papers and threw them toward her before leaving the classroom. She also alleged that the students locked her and several female students inside the room.

The lecturer said she continued the test with the remaining students despite the disruption. However, she claimed the same students later returned with additional individuals and continued threatening her inside the classroom.

She further alleged that the students demanded passing marks and warned her about their political influence after she refused to comply. According to the complaint, the students also locked the department gate when she tried to leave the classroom area.

Following the incident, the Teaching Staff Association at Islamia College strongly reacted and demanded immediate disciplinary action against the students involved. The association had earlier warned of a boycott of academic activities if action was not taken.

Later, the association announced that its planned strike had been postponed until the disciplinary committee releases its final verdict. It also confirmed that all academic activities at Islamia College will continue normally until June 8.

The university administration has not yet issued the committeeโ€™s final findings. However, the temporary suspension of the students marks the first formal action in the case.
