Pakistan Customs Launches Major Crackdown, Seizes Billions in Smuggled Goods

Pakistan Customs has intensified its nationwide anti-smuggling campaign, recovering illegal goods worth Rs. 3.718 billion in just two weeks. The operation is part of a coordinated effort under federal government and FBR directives.

Officials said the action targets organized networks involved in illegal trade. The crackdown is aimed at reducing the influence of Smugglers across key supply routes.

According to the Office of the Chief Collector Customs (Enforcement), Islamabad, seizures were carried out by nine enforcement collectorates. These units operated in different regions across the country.

Gadani reported the highest recoveries worth Rs. 853 million. Sargodha followed with Rs. 700 million in confiscated goods. Quetta recorded Rs. 693 million in seized items.

Authorities said Smugglers are using advanced methods to move illegal goods. These include hidden compartments in vehicles, courier parcels, and commercial transport.

In one major operation in Gadani, Customs intercepted six fishing boats. The boats were carrying 201,000 litres of smuggled Iranian-origin high-speed diesel.

Officials later recovered an additional 158,000 litres from coastal dumping sites. The total value of this case reached approximately Rs. 357 million.

In another operation in Multan, Customs seized goods worth Rs. 205 million. The shipment included 3,900 kilograms of acetate tow used in cigarette filter production.

In Bhakkar, enforcement teams confiscated contraband worth Rs. 96 million. The goods were hidden under a consignment of onions in a cargo truck.

Officials said Smugglers are increasingly using complex concealment techniques. These methods include hidden spaces in buses, luxury vehicles, and courier shipments.

Customs authorities reaffirmed their commitment to continued enforcement. They said the goal is to dismantle organized Smugglers networks and protect the national economy.

They also emphasized that strict monitoring will continue at borders and transport routes. Intelligence-based operations are being strengthened for faster response.

The department stated that sustained action is necessary to stop revenue losses. It also aims to ensure fair competition for legal businesses in the country.

Officials added that the crackdown against Smugglers will remain a top priority. More coordinated operations are expected in the coming weeks.
