KARACHI: The Sindh government has officially revised the schedule for public holidays for Eid ul Adha 2026. The updated plan confirms holidays from 26 May to 28 May across the province.
According to the official notification, the decision was approved by Sindh Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah. The announcement applies to all government departments, semi-government institutions, and autonomous bodies.
The government confirmed that these holidays will also include local councils and municipal corporations. All such offices will remain closed during the Eid ul Adha holidays period.
Authorities also stated that offices across Sindh will follow a work-from-home policy on 29 May. This step has been taken to manage administrative continuity after the Eid holidays.
However, essential service departments have not been included in the holiday schedule. These departments will continue to operate normally during the Eid period.
The provincial government also directed departments involved in budget preparation to keep working. Officials said this is necessary to complete financial planning on time, even during festive holidays.
Earlier, the federal government had already announced a three-day break from 26 May to 28 May. These federal holidays apply to government offices and private institutions nationwide.
The federal notification confirmed that most offices will remain closed during this period of Eid holidays. This ensures nationwide coordination of the festive break.
The Ruet-e-Hilal Committee also announced the Eid ul Adha dates. The committee confirmed that Eid will be observed from 27 May to 29 May.
The announcement came after the Zil Hajj moon sighting meeting held in Karachi on 17 May. Religious authorities verified the moon sighting and confirmed the Islamic calendar dates.
The updated schedule has created a clear framework for Eid holidays across Sindh. Citizens have been advised to follow official instructions during the holiday period.
Officials said the revised plan helps balance public convenience and administrative needs. At the same time, essential services will continue without interruption.
The government emphasized that holidays are meant to facilitate citizens during Eid celebrations. Authorities also encouraged smooth coordination between departments during the festive period.
