Chief Investment Officer of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, Mr Konstantin Limitovskiy, met Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif in Lahore on Tuesday to discuss development projects and institutional cooperation in the province.
According to reports, Director General of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, Ms Xiaohong Yang, also attended the meeting. Both sides discussed matters related to urban development, infrastructure improvement, and future partnerships in Punjab.
During the meeting, Maryam Nawaz briefed the delegation about ongoing development initiatives launched by the Punjab government. She highlighted several major projects related to housing, transport, sanitation, and environmental protection.
The chief minister invited the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank to become a partner in Punjab’s future development projects. She said international cooperation was important for improving urban infrastructure and public services across the province.
Maryam Nawaz informed the delegation that the Punjab government’s “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” programme had received appreciation during the 13th session of the Baku Urban Forum. She stated that more than 100,000 houses had been built within one year under the programme.
She also discussed the province’s electric bus and e-bike initiatives. According to her, these transport projects are progressing successfully in different parts of Punjab and are helping improve eco-friendly travel options for citizens.
Maryam Nawaz appreciated the support and partnership of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank in Punjab’s development agenda. She also thanked the bank for its cooperation in signing a memorandum of understanding aimed at improving water and sanitation infrastructure in Lahore.
The chief minister said the agreement reflected the confidence of the bank in Punjab’s reform and development policies. She added that several projects were expected to improve the urban system in Lahore and nearby areas.
Maryam Nawaz said the Lahore Wastewater and Drainage Management Project, along with the sewerage network and wastewater treatment plant at Babu Sabu, would help strengthen the city’s drainage system and sanitation facilities.
She further stated that cooperation with the bank would bring positive changes in urban culture and public health standards. According to her, the proposed surface water treatment plant at BRB Canal would also benefit from the bank’s support.
The chief minister emphasized that Punjab was rapidly moving toward environmental protection and better healthcare conditions. She said the government was focusing on clean water, improved health services, and a modern transport network.

Maryam Nawaz added that Punjab was adopting a new urban governance model based on data planning, technology monitoring, and climate-smart infrastructure to improve the quality of life for citizens across the province.
