Pakistan has reaffirmed its long-standing position on Israel, rejecting suggestions that it may join the Abraham Accords following recent remarks by US President Donald Trump.
Trump recently encouraged several countries, including Pakistan, to consider becoming part of the Abraham Accords, a diplomatic initiative launched in 2020 to normalize relations between Israel and several Arab nations. The proposal was reportedly linked to broader regional diplomatic efforts involving Iran.
However, Pakistani officials have made it clear that the country’s policy on Israel remains unchanged.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar strongly dismissed speculation about any shift in Pakistan’s stance during a media briefing at Pakistan’s Embassy in Washington. The briefing followed his meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Dar described Pakistan’s position as clear, consistent, and non-negotiable. He emphasized that there is no flexibility on the issue and rejected rumors circulating in diplomatic and media circles.
According to Dar, Pakistan will not consider recognizing Israel unless an independent Palestinian state is established. He reiterated that such a state must be based on pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem serving as its capital.
The foreign minister stressed that Pakistan’s support for the Palestinian cause remains firm. He said the country continues to stand with the people of Palestine and Gaza and believes meaningful progress toward a sovereign Palestinian state must come before any discussion of diplomatic relations with Israel.
Dar also noted that he has repeatedly conveyed Pakistan’s position at international forums, including the United Nations. He said Islamabad has maintained the same message for many years and remains committed to that policy.
Pakistan currently does not recognize Israel and has no formal diplomatic relations with the country. This position is also reflected in Pakistani passports, which state that they are valid for travel to all countries except Israel.
The debate gained attention after comments linked to Trump sparked speculation about whether Pakistan might reconsider its policy. During the Washington briefing, Dar did not confirm whether the Abraham Accords were directly discussed with US officials. Instead, he focused on restating Pakistan’s established position.
The Abraham Accords were introduced during Trump’s previous administration and led to the normalization of relations between Israel and several Arab countries. Supporters describe the initiative as a step toward regional cooperation, while critics argue that it does not address the core issues of the Palestinian conflict.

For now, Pakistan has made it clear that its stance remains unchanged. Officials continue to insist that recognition of Israel is tied to the creation of an independent Palestinian state, a position that remains central to the country’s foreign policy.
