Pakistan has reported a steady rise in its livestock sector, with the Donkey Population showing notable growth over the past year. According to official data, the Donkey Population in the country has now crossed 6.16 million.
The figures show an increase of around 113,000 donkeys compared to the previous year. This rise highlights continued expansion in Pakistanโs livestock resources.
Along with donkeys, other major livestock categories also recorded significant growth. Buffalo numbers increased by 1.467 million, reaching a total of 49.155 million. Cattle also showed strong performance with an increase of 2.249 million, bringing their total to 61.96 million.
The goat population, one of the largest segments of the livestock sector, also saw a sharp rise. It increased by 2.422 million during the reporting period. Sheep numbers grew to 33.511 million after an increase of 392,000 animals.
The report also highlighted small but steady growth in other animals. The camel population reached 1.193 million. Horses stood at 386,000, while mules increased slightly to 221,000.
Experts say the rise in the Donkey Population reflects ongoing demand for working animals in rural and semi-urban areas. Donkeys are widely used for transport and small-scale labor tasks in many parts of the country.
Officials note that overall livestock growth is an important indicator for Pakistanโs agricultural economy. The sector supports millions of rural households and contributes significantly to food production and income generation.
The increase in the Donkey Population alongside other animals suggests broader expansion in farming and livestock activities. This growth may also reflect improved breeding conditions and rising economic reliance on animal resources.
Authorities believe continued investment in livestock health, feed, and breeding programs will help sustain this upward trend. They also emphasize the need for better management practices to support long-term sector development.
