Babusar Top Road Closed for Traffic Until June 6 Due to Snow Clearance Work

BABUSAR: Authorities have temporarily closed the Babusar Top road for all types of traffic. The closure will remain in place until June 6. The decision has been taken due to ongoing snow clearance operations.

According to an official travel advisory, the route remains blocked because of heavy snow, glaciers, and debris. These conditions have made travel unsafe for vehicles. The Babusar Top road connects Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with Gilgit-Baltistan and is a key travel route during summer months.

Officials said continuous snowfall and bad weather have slowed down restoration work. Large deposits of snow and ice are still present at several points along the highway. Teams are working to remove these blockages step by step.

The National Highway Authority (NHA) and local administration are jointly carrying out clearance operations. Heavy machinery is being used to restore safe travel conditions. However, progress remains slow due to difficult terrain and unstable weather.

Earlier, the Babusar Top route was opened on a one-way basis to facilitate limited travel. This allowed some movement of tourists and transport vehicles toward Gilgit-Baltistan. However, authorities have now suspended all traffic completely for safety reasons.

Officials stated that the road will only reopen once all snow and glacier material is fully cleared. They added that safety of travelers remains the top priority. No vehicle will be allowed to pass until conditions improve.

The closure of Babusar Top has also affected travel plans for tourists visiting northern Pakistan. Many travelers are being advised to use alternative routes until the road is restored.

Authorities have urged the public to follow official updates and avoid unnecessary travel in the affected region. They also warned that weather conditions in high-altitude areas can change quickly, increasing risks for drivers.

Once clearance work is completed, the Babusar Top road is expected to reopen gradually, depending on weather conditions and road safety assessments.
