PM Orders Commercial Courts to Speed Up Business Dispute Resolution in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has taken a major step to improve the justice system for business cases. PM orders have been issued for legislation to establish commercial courts across Pakistan.

The decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by the prime minister. The move aims to ensure faster resolution of commercial disputes and improve investor confidence.

According to officials, PM orders include the formation of a special committee to prepare a draft law. This committee will design the legal framework for setting up commercial courts in the country.

Federal Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar has been appointed as the convener of the committee. It also includes the attorney general of Pakistan, the minister of state for finance, and legal experts.

The committee has been tasked with drafting legislation that will define the structure and functioning of commercial courts. It will also propose measures to ensure quick and efficient handling of business-related disputes.

Officials said the panel will review the current legal system for commercial cases. It will identify gaps and suggest reforms to improve the overall efficiency of dispute resolution.

The committee will also prepare a detailed report explaining the legal basis and policy objectives of the proposed system. This report will guide the final shape of the legislation.

Under the PM orders, the committee must also look into ongoing arbitration law reforms. It will assess how international standards, including obligations under the Singapore Convention on Mediation, can be included in the new framework.

The Ministry of Law and Justice will provide administrative and technical support to the committee. Officials have been directed to ensure smooth coordination among all members.

The committee has been given 45 days to submit its recommendations and final report to the Prime Minister.

Experts believe the establishment of commercial courts could help reduce delays in business litigation. It may also improve Pakistanโ€™s business environment and strengthen investor trust.
