“Never Was, Never Is, Never Will Be” — Pakistan’s Strong Message on Kashmir at UN

“Never Was, Never Is, Never Will Be” — Pakistan’s Strong Message on Kashmir at UN

Pakistan has strongly rejected India’s claim over Jammu and Kashmir during a fresh exchange at the United Nations General Assembly. The statement came after India reiterated its position that Kashmir is an integral part of the country.

Speaking at the UN General Assembly, Pakistan exercised its right of reply through diplomat Gul Qaiser Sarwani. He dismissed India’s assertions and stated that Jammu and Kashmir remains an internationally recognized dispute. He emphasized that the territory is still on the agenda of the United Nations Security Council.

Sarwani said that no statement or interpretation could change the historical, legal, and international status of the dispute. He maintained that Jammu and Kashmir was never, is not, and will never be an integral part of India. The remarks were made in response to comments by India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Parvathaneni Harish.

The latest exchange followed earlier remarks by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad. Addressing the General Assembly, he highlighted the continued relevance of the UN Kashmir issue and the Palestine question. He said both disputes remain on the agenda of the Security Council and require resolution under relevant UN resolutions.

According to Ambassador Asim, the Security Council received more than 20 communications related to the India-Pakistan question during 2025. He also noted that the Council held closed consultations on the matter in May 2025. These developments, he said, demonstrate that the UN Kashmir issue continues to receive international attention more than seven decades after it was first discussed by the Council.

Pakistan reiterated that lasting peace in South Asia depends on a fair settlement of the Kashmir dispute. The country maintains that any solution should be based on Security Council resolutions and the right of self-determination for the Kashmiri people.

During his address, Ambassador Asim also referred to the situation in Palestine. He said the ongoing humanitarian crisis, especially in Gaza, remained a major concern for the Security Council. He welcomed the adoption of Resolution 2803, which supports the Gaza Peace Plan, and stressed the importance of its full implementation.

Pakistan also reaffirmed its support for the Palestinian people and their right to an independent state based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

The envoy further highlighted the importance of UN peacekeeping missions and special political operations. He said Pakistan remains committed to strengthening international peace efforts and ensuring that peace operations remain effective and responsive to modern challenges.

Commenting on broader global governance issues, Ambassador Asim called for a more democratic, representative, and accountable multilateral system. He said concerns remain among member states regarding the use of veto powers and argued that expanding individual permanent memberships would not help achieve shared international objectives.
