GB Election Results for Five Constituencies Delayed Until Re-Polling

The Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan has decided to withhold results in five constituencies and several polling stations as the GB Election process continues across the region.

According to an official notification, results for GB-15 Diamer-1, GB-16 Diamer-2, GB-17 Diamer-3, GBA-13 Astore, and ten polling stations in GBA-8 Skardu will remain suspended until re-polling is completed.

The commission stated that final results cannot be announced until fresh voting is held at the affected polling stations. Returning officers have been instructed not to open postal ballots, conduct vote counting, or issue constituency results until further directions are issued.

Election authorities emphasized that constituency-wise results will only be finalized after the re-polling results are added to the overall vote count. Officials also warned that any violation of these instructions would be considered a breach of the election code of conduct.

The Chief Election Commissioner of Gilgit-Baltistan reiterated that no final result in the affected constituencies would be announced before the completion of the re-polling process.

The decision follows disturbances reported during voting at the Loshi Thak women’s polling station in GBA-15. Election officials declared polling at the station void after violence and law-and-order issues disrupted the voting process.

Reports indicated that stone-pelting and firing created panic among voters and election staff. As a result, many registered voters were unable to cast their ballots despite approximately 200 votes already being recorded.

Polling staff were later evacuated under security arrangements. Following the incident, the Election Commission ordered fresh polling at the station on June 15, 2026. Voting will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. without interruption.

The commission said the re-polling arrangements would be directly supervised by the returning officer to ensure transparency and fairness throughout the process. Officials stressed that all measures would be taken to maintain law and order during voting.

Meanwhile, the broader GB Election landscape suggests that Gilgit-Baltistan may be heading toward a coalition government. According to unofficial results, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) emerged as the largest political party by securing 10 seats, while the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) won six seats.

Sources indicate that discussions have already begun regarding a possible coalition between the PPP and PML-N. Reports suggest that both parties may follow a power-sharing formula similar to arrangements at the federal level.

Under the proposed arrangement, the chief minister’s position could go to the PPP, while the governorship may be allocated to the PML-N. Ministry portfolios are also expected to be distributed according to an agreed formula.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated the people of Gilgit-Baltistan on what he described as a peaceful and transparent GB Election. He also congratulated the PPP leadership after the party emerged as the leading political force in the region.
