The Punjab education authorities have announced plans for a new educational initiative aimed at improving reading habits and digital learning opportunities. Under the project, Lahore to Launch a modern โLibraries on Wheelsโ program in government schools across the city.
The initiative is expected to enhance studentsโ access to books and digital educational resources. Officials believe the project will encourage a stronger reading culture while introducing modern learning tools into classrooms.
According to the plan, Lahore to Launch the project with an estimated cost of Rs. 198 million. The program will include the purchase of 85 electric vehicles that will be converted into mobile libraries. These vehicles will travel to schools and provide educational services directly to students.
Each mobile library will be equipped with 20 modern tablets and a large LED screen. These facilities will support interactive learning activities and give students access to digital content. Authorities say the combination of books and technology will create a more engaging learning environment.
Under a fixed schedule, every mobile library will visit one school each day. Students will be able to access reading materials, educational resources, and digital learning tools without leaving their school premises. The vehicles will also be charged daily at designated charging stations established within schools.
The decision comes as education officials continue efforts to improve learning standards in government institutions. The District Education Authority believes the project will play an important role in strengthening educational outcomes and promoting literacy among students.
Officials say Lahore to Launch the initiative with a focus on both traditional and modern learning methods. Books will remain an important part of the project, while digital resources will provide students with access to updated educational content.
CEO Tariq Mahmood said modern technology would help bridge learning gaps and improve access to quality educational materials. He noted that students would benefit from both physical books and digital resources available through the mobile libraries.
The project also supports environmentally friendly transportation by using electric vehicles. This approach aligns with broader efforts to introduce sustainable solutions into public sector projects.
