WASA Cancels Staff Leave to Ensure Smooth Muharram Arrangements

LAHORE: The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has canceled the leave of all operational staff and officers ahead of Muharram-ul-Haram. The decision aims to ensure uninterrupted water and sanitation services during the holy month.

According to official instructions, all field teams and officers will remain available throughout Muharram to address public concerns and maintain essential services. Authorities have emphasized the importance of preparedness due to the large number of processions and gatherings expected during the period.

Managing Director WASA has directed officials in all towns to complete the cleaning of sewerage lines along procession routes. The agency has also ordered a detailed inspection of manholes to ensure public safety and prevent disruptions during religious events.

Officials have been instructed to repair damaged manholes immediately. The move is intended to reduce the risk of accidents and provide a safer environment for mourners participating in Muharram processions.

To improve emergency response, WASA will keep its complaint centers and response units operational around the clock. Residents will be able to report water supply issues, sewerage blockages, and other concerns at any time during Muharram.

The agency has also directed officers and staff to visit Imambargahs in their respective areas. These visits are intended to assess arrangements, identify potential issues, and ensure that all necessary measures are in place before major gatherings begin.

According to officials, focal persons have been appointed in every town to coordinate operations and respond quickly to emerging problems. A central control room will also remain active throughout Muharram to monitor the situation and maintain communication with field teams.

Authorities have placed water tankers on high alert to ensure a continuous water supply along procession routes. The agency aims to prevent shortages and provide immediate assistance if additional water is required during religious events.

In addition, suction machines, jetting equipment, and water bowsers have been deployed at strategic locations across the city. These resources will allow teams to respond rapidly to emergencies involving drainage systems or water distribution.

Special complaint-handling teams have also been formed to deal with sewerage and water-related issues on an urgent basis. These teams will work throughout Muharram to provide timely solutions and minimize inconvenience to the public.
