The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has finalized a detailed security plan for Ashura across the province. As part of the plan, Mobile phone services will be suspended in selected areas during the 9th and 10th of Muharram.
Security officials said the step aims to maintain law and order during religious gatherings. According to authorities, Mobile phone services will be fully suspended in some high-risk locations. Partial restrictions will also be imposed in other sensitive areas.
Officials have declared around 400 Imambargahs as sensitive or highly sensitive across the province. In addition, 286 mourning processions have been marked as highly sensitive, while 190 others are listed as sensitive.
In Peshawar, strict security arrangements have been announced for the Ashura processions. Mobile phone services will face partial suspension in parts of the city. Authorities also confirmed that the Cantonment area will be completely sealed during the central procession on the 9th of Muharram.
On the 10th of Muharram, security will be further increased. Special checkpoints will be set up at all entry and exit points of Peshawar. Security personnel will closely monitor movement in and around the city.
Walk-through gates will be installed along procession routes and at Imambargahs. CCTV cameras will also be used for 24-hour surveillance. Security forces will continue search and sweep operations in different districts to prevent any unwanted incidents.
Sources said some markets in Peshawarโs inner city may remain closed in phases. Authorities are also increasing checks at hotels, guest houses, and residential facilities in sensitive areas.
To improve coordination, the provincial government has established a central control room at the Civil Secretariat. Monitoring centers have also been activated in deputy commissionersโ offices across the province.
Meanwhile, the Sindh government has announced public holidays on the 9th and 10th of Muharram. These holidays will be observed on June 25 and June 26.
