Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has strongly rejected rumors circulating on social media about the death of senior party leader Dr Yasmin Rashid. The party confirmed that she is alive and remains in Kot Lakhpat Jail.
The clarification came after several social media posts claimed that Dr Yasmin Rashid had passed away following a sudden deterioration in her health. The unverified reports alleged that she died while receiving treatment after being shifted from jail to a hospital.
In response to the claims, PTI’s central spokesperson Sheikh Waqas Akram issued an official statement on the social media platform X. He described the reports as completely false and urged the public not to believe or share them.
According to Sheikh Waqas Akram, Dr Yasmin Rashid is alive and continues to remain in Kot Lakhpat Jail. He said the reports about her death have no basis in reality and are nothing more than rumors.
The PTI spokesperson also stated that the senior party leader continues to face imprisonment following her conviction in cases related to the May 9 incidents. He described her detention as illegal and said she is being punished for standing with former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Sheikh Waqas Akram appealed to PTI workers and supporters to remain cautious while using social media. He urged them to verify information before accepting or sharing reports related to party leaders.
The clarification came after false information spread rapidly across several social media platforms. The rumors claimed that Dr Yasmin Rashid had suffered a serious health emergency inside Kot Lakhpat Jail before being moved to a hospital, where she allegedly died during treatment.
However, PTI has firmly denied these claims and said there is no truth to the reports. The party emphasized that she remains alive and continues to serve her sentence in prison.
The incident highlights the growing challenge of misinformation spreading quickly through social media. False reports involving public figures can create unnecessary panic and confusion before official information becomes available.
PTI has urged the public to rely only on verified statements issued by the party and credible news sources. It also requested supporters not to forward or believe unconfirmed reports circulating online.
