The Punjab School Education Department has approved a new Education Plan aimed at improving school performance and management across the province. Under this plan, two headmasters, principals, or headmistresses will be appointed in every government school.
Officials said the Education Plan is part of broader efforts to strengthen the education system and improve learning outcomes. The decision has been finalized as authorities prepare for the new academic session.
According to the department, the appointment process will be completed before the end of the summer vacations. Each school will have one regular headmaster and one OPS (Own Pay Scale) headmaster under the new system.
The OPS headmaster will focus mainly on academic activities. Their responsibilities will include monitoring classroom teaching, checking student attendance, and preparing reports on school performance. They will also work closely with teachers to improve results and create a better learning environment.
The regular headmaster will handle overall school administration. This includes supervising staff, improving studentsโ academic and moral development, and preparing school development plans. They will also maintain communication with education officers and submit regular performance reports.
The department believes this Education Plan will help divide responsibilities more effectively. This could lead to better management and stronger academic performance in schools.
Alongside this decision, the department has also approved the rationalization of teachers. This process will begin in August and will cover primary, middle, and high schools. Officials said the goal is to balance teacher distribution based on school needs.
In another major step, Punjab has approved the outsourcing of 5,550 more government schools. These include primary, middle, and high schools. Applications have already been invited from interested parties.
Education officials say these reforms are designed to improve efficiency and raise education standards across Punjab. Rawalpindi Executive Education Officer Yasin Baloch said the appointment of two school heads would strengthen management, improve teacher performance, and support student development.
