The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a rain forecast warning for several parts of Pakistan. The alert covers the period from July 6 to July 10 and highlights the risk of heavy rainfall, flash floods and landslides.
According to the National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC), an active weather system is expected to enter northern Pakistan on July 6. The system is likely to bring thunderstorms and widespread rain to several regions.
The affected areas include Azad Jammu and Kashmir, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, the Potohar region and northeastern Punjab. Authorities said residents should stay updated with official weather information during the forecast period.
The rain forecast indicates that intermittent rainfall will continue from July 7 to July 10. The upper catchment areas of the Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej rivers are expected to receive rain during this period.
NDMA said some locations may experience heavy downpours. Rainfall intensity is also expected to increase on July 7 across Islamabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northern Punjab and northern Balochistan.
The authority said the expected rainfall could increase water inflows into Tarbela and Mangla dams. Water levels in the country’s major rivers may also rise slightly.
However, NDMA clarified that there is currently no threat of large-scale river flooding. Officials said the situation will continue to be monitored closely as the weather system develops.
Despite the absence of major river flood risks, authorities warned about other possible hazards. Flash floods may occur in hill torrents and seasonal streams due to intense rainfall.
Low-lying urban areas could also face urban flooding if drainage systems become overwhelmed. Residents living in vulnerable locations have been advised to remain cautious.
The authority also warned of possible landslides and falling rocks in mountainous regions. These risks are higher in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Travelers heading to hilly areas have been urged to plan carefully. Heavy rain may affect road conditions and increase the chances of travel disruptions.
NDMA has directed all relevant departments and emergency response agencies to remain on high alert throughout the forecast period. Officials have been instructed to stay prepared for any emergency situation caused by severe weather.
The rain forecast also encourages the public to regularly follow official weather updates, travel advisories and emergency alerts. Citizens have been advised to use the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert mobile application to receive the latest information and safety notifications.
Authorities said timely updates and public cooperation will help reduce risks during the expected spell of heavy rainfall. People are urged to avoid unnecessary travel in affected areas and follow instructions issued by local administration and emergency services.
