PESCO to Review Pending Job Quota Cases for Families of Deceased Employees

PESHAWAR: The Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) has decided to review pending job quota cases related to employees who died while serving the organization. The review also includes cases involving workers who lost their lives due to electrocution.

PESCO has issued an official notification directing all field offices to provide complete information about pending cases. The company has asked officials to send the required documents to the Head Office without delay.

According to the notification, only cases that were created before the Supreme Courtโ€™s decision on October 18, 2024, will be reviewed. The process will be carried out according to the clarification issued by the Federal Constitutional Court.

PESCO has instructed all field offices to submit complete records through a special messenger by July 30. Officials have been told to ensure that all required documents are included before sending the cases to the Head Office.

The notification clearly states that no fresh claims or applications submitted after the deadline will be accepted. Only existing pending job quota cases that meet the eligibility criteria will be considered during the review process.

After the scrutiny of all pending cases, PESCO will begin interviews under the job quota policy. The company said this step will only take place after the verification of all submitted records.

PESCO has also directed its field offices to immediately forward reports on all pending cases. The Head Office will examine each case before making further decisions.

The review comes after recent policy changes at the federal level regarding employment for the families of deceased government employees.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif approved amendments to the recruitment policy under the Prime Ministerโ€™s Assistance Package. The changes ended the previous practice of offering a government job to a family member of an employee who died while in service.

The decision follows a ruling by the Supreme Court. After the courtโ€™s verdict, the Establishment Division issued instructions to all ministries and government departments to implement the revised policy.

Despite the policy changes, the government has confirmed that all other benefits available under the Prime Ministerโ€™s Assistance Package will remain unchanged for eligible families.

The revised policy also includes important exceptions. It does not apply to the children of martyrs from law enforcement agencies or those who sacrificed their lives while fighting terrorism.

In addition, the new rules will not affect the recruitment of heirs whose appointments were approved before the policy was changed.
