Monsoon Rain Alert Issued as NDMA Warns of Floods and Landslides

Monsoon Rain Alert Issued as NDMA Warns of Floods and Landslides

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a Monsoon rain alert for several parts of Pakistan. The warning comes ahead of a fresh weather system expected to affect large areas of the country from July 10 to July 13, 2026.

According to the NDMA, heavy rainfall could trigger flash floods, landslides, and overflowing streams in northern regions. The authority has urged people to stay informed and follow official safety instructions.

The National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC) has warned that the upcoming Monsoon rain spell may create dangerous conditions, especially in mountainous and low-lying areas. Authorities are closely monitoring the weather situation and coordinating with provincial agencies.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast strong winds, thunderstorms, and heavy rainfall in several regions. Areas expected to receive significant rain include Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Punjab.

The weather department also predicted rainfall in major cities, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, and Faisalabad. Southern Punjab, upper Sindh, and parts of Balochistan are also expected to receive rain and thunderstorms on July 11 and 12.

Officials warned that heavy Monsoon rain may lead to urban flooding in low-lying areas. Rising water levels in rivers and streams could also increase the risk of flash floods.

The NDMA said the threat of landslides will remain high in northern regions between July 11 and July 13. Flood risks in mountainous areas of Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Azad Kashmir may continue until July 14.

Authorities also expressed concern over rising temperatures combined with heavy rainfall. They said this combination could accelerate glacial melting, increasing the chances of debris flows and sudden flash floods.

Several high-risk locations have already been identified by the NDMA. These include parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Kashmir, Murree, Mansehra, and Abbottabad.

The authority also warned about possible landslides and falling rocks along important road networks. These include the Karakoram Highway, Jaglot-Skardu Road, Hunza-Gojal Road, and routes passing through Ghizer, Naltar, Bagrote, and Haramosh.

Officials said blocked roads could disrupt travel and emergency response efforts in affected areas. Travelers are advised to remain cautious while planning journeys to northern regions.

The NDMA has urged residents living near rivers, streams, and hillsides to stay alert during the forecast period. Local administrations have also been advised to remain prepared for possible emergency situations.

Tourists visiting northern Pakistan have been requested to avoid unnecessary travel to mountainous areas during the weather spell. Authorities advised everyone to regularly monitor weather updates and follow instructions issued by local officials.

The government said disaster management teams remain on alert to respond to any emergency caused by the Monsoon rain system. Officials will continue monitoring weather conditions and provide updates as the situation develops.

Citizens are encouraged to take precautionary measures, avoid flooded roads, and report emergencies to local authorities. The NDMA hopes that timely warnings and public cooperation will help reduce the impact of the expected rainfall across the country.
