PM&DC Increases MBBS Seats in Punjab Government Medical Colleges

PM&DC Increases MBBS Seats in Punjab Government Medical Colleges

Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has approved an increase in MBBS seats at government medical colleges across Punjab. The decision is expected to provide more opportunities for students seeking admission to public sector medical institutions.

According to reports, the PMDC has officially approved the addition of 475 new MBBS seats in Punjab’s government medical colleges. The move is aimed at expanding access to medical education and addressing the growing demand for qualified healthcare professionals.

Following the approval, the total number of MBBS seats in Punjab’s government medical colleges has increased from 3,476 to 3,951. The expansion represents a significant boost for aspiring medical students preparing for admissions.

Officials said the increase is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the country’s healthcare education system. By creating additional seats, more students will have the opportunity to pursue medical studies in public institutions.

The latest decision also raises the total number of seats in Punjab’s government medical and dental colleges to 4,241. This figure includes admissions for both medical and dental programmes offered by public sector institutions across the province.

Medical education remains one of the most competitive fields in Pakistan. Every year, thousands of students compete for a limited number of seats after completing the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT). The increase in available seats is expected to reduce some of the pressure faced by applicants.

Education experts believe that expanding admission capacity can help improve the availability of trained doctors in the future. Pakistan continues to require more healthcare professionals to meet the growing needs of its population.

The PMDC, which regulates medical and dental education in Pakistan, regularly reviews admission policies and institutional standards. The council works to ensure that medical colleges maintain academic quality while expanding educational opportunities where possible.

Students and parents have welcomed the announcement, as additional seats may improve admission chances for deserving candidates. Public medical colleges remain the preferred choice for many students because of their lower tuition costs and established academic reputation.

The increase in admissions is also expected to support the government’s broader efforts to improve healthcare services. Producing more qualified graduates can help strengthen hospitals and healthcare facilities across the country in the coming years.

Officials have not announced any changes to the admission process itself. Students will still be required to meet PMDC eligibility criteria and complete all admission requirements before securing a place in a government medical college.
