Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government has announced a Holiday on July 27 in the Mirpur Division to facilitate the first phase of the AJK Legislative Assembly elections. The decision was made following a request from the AJK Election Commission to ensure smooth polling and allow voters to participate without difficulty.
According to an official notification issued by the Services and General Administration Department, the Holiday will apply only to areas within the Mirpur Division. Government offices and other relevant institutions in the division will remain closed on polling day.
Officials said the declaration is intended to support election-related activities and encourage maximum voter participation. The Election Commission had formally requested the government to announce the public holiday to help manage polling arrangements efficiently.
The first phase of the AJK Legislative Assembly elections is scheduled to take place on July 27 in the Mirpur Division. Authorities believe the Holiday will make it easier for voters, election staff, and security personnel to carry out their responsibilities during the polling process.
AJK Chief Election Commissioner Ghulam Mustafa Mughal recently announced the complete election schedule during a press conference in Muzaffarabad. He confirmed that the legislative assembly elections will be held in three phases across different regions of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Under the revised election plan, voting in the Mirpur Division will begin on July 27. The second phase of polling is scheduled for August 2 in the Muzaffarabad Division. Polling for the 12 constituencies reserved for refugees will also take place on the same day.
The final phase of the elections will be held on August 10 in the Poonch Division. Election officials said the phased schedule has been designed to improve security, administrative coordination, and the overall management of the electoral process.
To maintain peace during the elections, the Election Commission has announced that armed forces will be deployed across polling areas. Security personnel will work alongside civil authorities to help ensure peaceful and transparent voting throughout the election period.
Chief Election Commissioner Ghulam Mustafa Mughal said the revised schedule was prepared after considering administrative requirements and security arrangements. He added that dividing the elections into three phases would help authorities manage polling more effectively across different divisions.
Election officials have also urged eligible voters to participate actively in the democratic process. They encouraged citizens to verify their polling information before election day and cooperate with election staff and security personnel.
