Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced a series of development commitments for Mirpur, including the introduction of 10 electric buses and a promise to support the construction of an international airport. The announcement came during an election rally held in Mirpur on Friday.
Addressing supporters, Maryam Nawaz said the electric buses would improve public transport in the city. She described the buses as a gift for the people of Mirpur and said they would provide residents with a more modern and environmentally friendly travel option.
She also pledged to establish an international airport in Mirpur if the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) secures victory in the region. According to her, better air connectivity would help boost travel, business, and economic opportunities for local residents.
During her speech, Maryam Nawaz spoke about her personal connection with Kashmir. She said she proudly considers herself the “daughter of Kashmir.” She recalled making a similar statement during an earlier visit to Muzaffarabad. She added that both her maternal and paternal grandparents belonged to Kashmir, making the region close to her heart.
The Punjab chief minister also expressed concern over the condition of roads in Mirpur. She said it was disappointing to see damaged infrastructure despite the sacrifices made by the people of Kashmir. She stressed that the region deserves better roads and modern public facilities.
Referring to former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, she said he had previously promised an international airport for Mirpur. She added that he had a history of fulfilling commitments made to the public and remained committed to the development of the region.
In addition to transport improvements, Maryam Nawaz outlined several other development goals for Azad Kashmir. These included improved healthcare services, free home delivery of medicines, ration card programs, and expanded social welfare initiatives similar to those already introduced in Punjab.
Without mentioning any political party by name, she criticized opposition leaders. She said some politicians take credit while seeking power but shift responsibility to the federal government when it comes to solving public problems. She also claimed that many roads currently used in the region were built during the tenure of Nawaz Sharif’s governments.

Concluding her address, Maryam Nawaz said a PML-N government in Azad Kashmir would focus on modern infrastructure, better healthcare, and stronger welfare programs. She reaffirmed her promise to deliver 10 electric buses to Mirpur and pursue the construction of an international airport, saying these projects would support the region’s long-term growth and improve the quality of life for its residents.
