Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to speed up the implementation of the Apna Ghar Scheme to provide affordable housing opportunities for low and middle-income families.
The direction was issued during a review meeting held in Islamabad to assess the progress of the housing initiative. The Prime Minister’s Office said the government is focused on expanding access to safe and affordable homes for citizens.
During the meeting, PM Shehbaz Sharif said providing housing facilities to people remains one of the government’s key priorities. He stated that the Apna Ghar Scheme was introduced to help low-income and middle-class families achieve their goal of owning a home.
The prime minister instructed officials to complete the programme’s work at a faster pace. He also urged public and private sector banks to increase financing support under the scheme.
Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that stronger financial support from banks would help improve the implementation process. He directed relevant departments to develop a detailed strategy for both vertical and horizontal housing projects.
Officials informed the meeting that significant progress has already been made under the housing initiative. Banks have approved financing worth Rs204 billion under the scheme so far.
The meeting was also informed that Rs27 billion has already been provided to beneficiaries. Authorities said regular monitoring is being carried out to improve the delivery process.
The Ministry of Housing and Works and the State Bank of Pakistan are conducting weekly reviews of the programme. These reviews aim to identify challenges and ensure smoother execution of the housing plan.
The government believes the Apna Ghar Scheme can help address housing challenges faced by millions of families across Pakistan. The initiative focuses on making home ownership easier for people who struggle with rising housing costs.
The review meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Minister for Housing and Works Riaz Hussain, Minister of State for Finance and Railways Bilal Azhar Kayani, and senior government officials.
