The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony has decided to introduce a single-bank system for Hajj 2027 applications and payments. Under the new arrangement, Habib Bank Limited (HBL) will manage the entire application and payment process for pilgrims.
The new system will replace the previous method, where 16 banks accepted Hajj applications. Officials believe the change will make the process simpler and more organized for applicants across Pakistan.
Under the updated plan, people applying under both the government and private Hajj schemes will submit their applications only through HBL. Pilgrims will also pay their Hajj dues using the same bank.
Applicants will have two options for completing the process. They can submit their applications and deposit payments online through HBL’s digital banking system. They can also visit any HBL branch to complete the required formalities.
According to sources, the Ministry of Religious Affairs and HBL are expected to sign a formal agreement in the coming days. The agreement will officially confirm the bank’s role in handling the Hajj 2027 application process.
The government is also expected to begin receiving applications for the government Hajj scheme later this week. However, officials have said the complete application schedule will be announced separately.
Sources said HBL was selected because of its large branch network and advanced digital banking services. The bank has branches across the country, making it easier for applicants from different cities and towns to access Hajj services.
The digital system is expected to improve the overall application process. It may help reduce paperwork and allow applicants to complete payments more efficiently. The online option is also expected to provide greater convenience for those who prefer digital banking services.
Pakistan has received a total Hajj quota of 179,210 pilgrims for Hajj 2027. The approved distribution has already been finalized by the authorities.
Out of the total quota, 107,832 pilgrims will perform Hajj under the government scheme. The remaining 71,888 pilgrims will travel under the private Hajj scheme.
The government and private schemes will continue to operate separately. However, both categories of applicants will now use the same banking system for submitting applications and paying Hajj dues.
