Torrential Rain has hit Rawalpindi and Islamabad, raising concerns about urban flooding across the twin cities.
Authorities have issued a flood alert along Nullah Lai after water levels increased rapidly. Warning sirens were also activated as conditions became more serious.
According to authorities, the water level at Kattarian crossed 22 feet during the latest spell. Meanwhile, the level at Gawalmandi Bridge reached around 16 feet.
Rescue 1122 teams have started precautionary announcements in areas located near Nullah Lai. Residents have been advised to remain indoors unless travel is necessary.
The twin cities received significant rainfall at several monitoring locations. Saidpur recorded 66mm, while Golra received 52mm.
Bokra recorded 65mm of rainfall, while Pirwadhai received 63mm. Chaklala recorded 47mm, while 50mm was reported in Shamsabad.
Persistent Rain has also caused water accumulation in several low-lying areas of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The situation has increased concerns for residents living near waterways and storm-water drains.
The Water and Sanitation Agency has remained on high alert during the wet spell. WASA teams and heavy machinery have been deployed to vulnerable locations.
Authorities are closely monitoring Nullah Lai as water levels remain a major concern. Rescue teams have also advised people to avoid unnecessary movement.
Citizens have been asked to stay away from Nullah Lai and other storm-water drains. Parents should also keep children away from open drains during the downpour.
Residents have been advised to maintain a safe distance from electric poles and other electrical installations. Wet conditions can increase safety risks around exposed electrical infrastructure.
The situation at Kattarian remains particularly important because the water level crossed 22 feet. This level has previously been linked with evacuation-level flooding at the location.
Records from the National Disaster Management Authority show similar risks during major rainfall events. Previous heavy spells have pushed Nullah Lai towards dangerous levels.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast further Rain and thunderstorms in several parts of the country.
The forecast covers Islamabad, upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Parts of Balochistan may also experience wet weather.
Further rainfall could keep the threat of urban flooding elevated in vulnerable areas. Authorities are therefore urging residents to follow official safety instructions.
The Flood Forecasting Division has also reported low-level flooding at several locations along the Indus River.
Low-level flooding has been reported at Kalabagh, Chashma, Taunsa and Guddu. However, conditions on other major rivers remain comparatively normal.
