Provinces Will Cut Costs and Improve Governance, Says Mian Amer Mahmood

Punjab Group of Colleges Chairman Mian Amer Mahmood has supported the creation of smaller administrative units in Pakistan.

He said new Provinces could reduce government expenses and improve public administration. He rejected claims that additional provinces would increase national spending.

Mahmood shared these views during the launch of the “My Province, My System” awareness campaign.

He said many countries had expanded their administrative units after experiencing population growth. Pakistan should consider similar reforms to meet changing governance needs.

Mahmood also praised Chaudhry Abdul Rehman for guiding young people in a positive direction.

Smaller Provinces Could Improve Administration

Mahmood said mayors and governors worldwide focus on local administration and public needs. He stressed that effective governance required manageable administrative areas.

He argued that smaller Provinces could deliver services more efficiently. Local governments could also respond faster to residents’ problems.

According to Mahmood, Balochistan could gain major economic and administrative benefits from the proposed reforms.

He suggested dividing Balochistan according to its eight existing divisions. He claimed the resulting units could become some of Pakistan’s wealthiest regions.

Mahmood said new Provinces in Sindh could also achieve strong economic growth. He highlighted Thar’s resources and described the region as economically promising.

Mahmood Discusses Punjab and Balochistan

Mahmood said Punjab faced criticism in different parts of Pakistan. He called for examining the reasons behind negative attitudes towards the province.

He claimed Punjab provided billions of rupees to Balochistan each year. However, he raised concerns about violence against Punjabis because of their identity.

Mahmood said people in Punjab were prepared to support smaller administrative units.

He urged policymakers to use the current opportunity for long-term reforms. He said Pakistan needed a governance system suited to local requirements.

Education Challenges Also Highlighted

Mahmood also discussed Pakistan’s education crisis during his address.

He said Pakistan had one of the world’s largest populations of out-of-school children. He also raised concerns about poor learning outcomes.

According to Mahmood, many enrolled children cannot read a textbook designed for fifth-grade students.

He said young Pakistanis wanted effective governance and better opportunities. Mahmood expressed hope that the country would make progress through practical reforms.

US Official Highlights Technology Cooperation

US Consul General in Lahore Stetson Sanders also addressed the event. He discussed technology’s growing role across Pakistan.

Sanders said technology was improving lives and creating opportunities for students and entrepreneurs. He described See Pakistan as a platform that could help students develop their abilities.

Sanders also highlighted American technology used by the Punjab Safe Cities Authority. He said it was supporting public safety in Punjab.

He expressed hope that Apple would establish a headquarters office in Pakistan.
