Shehbaz Government Under Pressure as PPP-Opposition Talks Reportedly Intensify

Political pressure is building around the Shehbaz Sharif government, with senior journalist Hamid Mir claiming that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and opposition groups are discussing whether to withdraw support from the ruling coalition.

The claim comes as tensions between the PPP and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) have become increasingly public.

The two parties remain coalition partners, but criticism from PPP figures over government performance has raised questions about the future of their working relationship.

According to Mir, some PPP voices are calling for the party to distance itself from the PML-N-led government. He also reported consultations among political groups about a possible joint strategy against the government.

If PPP were to withdraw its support and opposition parties coordinated their parliamentary strength, the government could face greater pressure.

However, there is currently no confirmed no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif based on the information available in the source.

The political debate is unfolding alongside renewed tensions surrounding Imran Khan’s treatment in prison. The Supreme Court had ordered that the former prime minister be shifted to Shifa International Hospital for medical examination. He was instead taken to PIMS, with the government citing security concerns.

PTI subsequently filed a contempt petition in the Supreme Court over the alleged non-compliance with the court’s directions.

The government has defended the decision, saying the security situation around Shifa Hospital prompted the change. Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said Khan was medically examined at PIMS and declared medically fit.

Mir also referred to September 27 as an important date for the political situation. Separately, PTI has announced a September 27 long march to Islamabad, according to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi.

For now, the key issue is coalition stability. Whether the reported consultations develop into an actual parliamentary move against the government remains unclear.
