Rawalpindi to Get 35 Million Gallons Daily

According to the Rawalpindi commissioner, Dadocha Dam will provide 35 million gallons of clean water each day. This additional supply will be connected to Rawalpindi’s existing distribution system.

The project is expected to improve access to safe drinking Water for residents across the targeted areas. Work will involve several major components beyond the construction of Dadocha Dam.

These include a transmission line, filtration plant and distribution network. The Water and Sanitation Agency will work on the transmission and supply network after the dam is completed.

Dadocha Dam Reaches 92% Completion

Construction of Dadocha Dam has reached 92 percent completion.

The Punjab Irrigation Department is responsible for the ongoing construction work. However, additional infrastructure will be needed before water can reach households across Rawalpindi.

A 28-kilometre transmission line will connect the dam with Rawalpindi. A filtration plant will also be constructed to provide clean water through the new system.

The distribution network will supply water across Rawalpindi city and cantonment areas. These components are expected to be completed by December 2029.

Rs36 Billion Estimated Project Cost

The entire project is estimated to cost Rs36 billion.

The Punjab government will provide Rs18 billion for expenses related to Rawalpindi city. Funding arrangements for the remaining Rs18 billion have yet to be finalised.

That amount relates to the project’s infrastructure serving the cantonment area. The issue will be considered during a meeting of the Punjab Cabinet.

Either the federal government or Punjab government is expected to bear the remaining cost. A final funding decision was not provided in the available information.

The project represents a major expansion of Rawalpindi’s Water supply infrastructure. Its planned capacity could add 35 million gallons per day once all components become operational.

Attention will now remain on completing Dadocha Dam and developing the associated infrastructure. The transmission line, filtration facility and distribution system remain essential parts of the overall project.
