Punjab Announces Province-Wide Crackdown on Environmental Violations

LAHORE: The Punjab government has decided to launch a major operation against environmental violations across the province.

The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb. Officials reviewed ongoing efforts to improve environmental monitoring.

The meeting was informed about the continued implementation of Chief Minister Maryam Nawazโ€™s โ€œClean Lahore, Healthy Punjabโ€ programme.

Authorities have already taken action against several businesses and individuals. Officials said notices were issued to 18 units over environmental violations.

Four units were also sealed following action by the relevant authorities. The measures are part of efforts to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.

Officials also reported action against construction-related violations. Six sites were sealed during the ongoing enforcement drive.

The administration has also intensified action against illegal polythene use. A total of 36 locations were sealed over violations involving polythene bags.

Authorities are also targeting vehicles that contribute to air pollution. Ten smoke-emitting vehicles were impounded during the crackdown.

Officials issued 24 challans against vehicles found violating environmental rules. Another 24 vehicles were sealed as part of the enforcement action.

The government plans to expand the operation to other areas across Punjab. The province-wide campaign will focus on improving compliance with environmental regulations.

Officials said monitoring will be further strengthened during the crop-harvesting season. The period is considered important due to concerns about pollution and related environmental issues.

The government has directed relevant departments to maintain strict surveillance. Authorities will monitor businesses, construction sites and vehicles for violations.

The expanded operation aims to ensure that environmental laws are properly enforced. Officials will also continue taking action against activities that threaten public health.
