KARACHI: The Sindh government will soon distribute Pink scooties among eligible women in Mirpurkhas.
Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced the development on Tuesday. He reviewed the progress of the programme during a transport department meeting.
Memon chaired a meeting of the Transport and Mass Transit Department. Officials briefed him about several ongoing transport projects across the province.
The meeting also discussed the distribution of Pink scooties among women. Officials reviewed progress and other measures linked to modern transport facilities.
Memon directed officials to complete the required arrangements for the scooter distribution. The initiative is part of broader efforts to improve mobility for women.
The minister also reviewed plans for new public transport routes. A new Peoples Bus Service route will connect Larkana with Qambar and Shahdadkot.
The new route is scheduled to begin operations on September 18. It will provide transport facilities to people living in the three cities.
Residents of nearby areas are also expected to benefit from the new service. Memon directed officials to ensure the route begins according to schedule.
He also ordered officials to provide necessary facilities for passengers. The minister said public transport should remain safe, affordable and accessible.
Green and Orange Line Services Reviewed
The meeting also examined the performance of Karachi’s Green Line and Orange Line bus services.
According to officials, Green Line ridership has reached around 88,000 passengers. The Orange Line currently serves more than 11,000 passengers each day.
Officials also presented plans for additional double-decker and electric buses. Memon directed them to complete route planning without unnecessary delays.
The government aims to expand modern public transport services across Sindh. Electric and environmentally friendly transport remains part of its wider transport plans.
Pink Scooter Programme for Women
The provincial government previously announced the Pink Scooter programme as part of its electric vehicle initiative.
Memon had earlier said the scheme was designed to support women’s mobility. The government also plans to introduce a Pink Taxi Scheme for women.
The proposed taxi service will use a fleet of pink electric taxis. Further details about the project are expected to be announced later.
Authorities have also taken steps to prevent misuse of scooters issued under the programme. Traffic police were directed to act if men were found using the scooters.
Memon said complaints had been received about male family members using scooters issued to women. The government therefore instructed authorities to address the issue.
He also said Sindh was the first province to introduce electric buses. Responding to concerns about limited scooter distribution, he explained the initial challenge.

According to Memon, only 150 women had driving licences when the Pink scooties programme was launched. The government is now working to expand the initiative among eligible women.
