LAHORE: Lahore Traffic Police has prepared a special traffic and safety plan for the upcoming Basant festival.
The plan focuses on protecting motorcyclists and managing traffic across the city. Authorities will provide safety rods to around 2.3 million motorcyclists.
Chief Traffic Officer Lahore Abdul Rahim Shirazi shared details of the plan. He said the department wants to equip nearly 80 percent of city bikers.
The safety rods are intended to reduce risks for motorcyclists during the festival. Last year, around one million bikers received similar protective rods.
The traffic police will also establish 100 camps across Lahore. These camps will be set up at important locations across the city.
Motorcyclists will be able to visit these camps for safety rod installation. The installation process is scheduled to begin on January 1, 2027.
Before installation begins, authorities will launch a public awareness campaign. The campaign is scheduled to start on November 1.
Officials will use the campaign to inform citizens about safety measures. They will also encourage motorcyclists to follow traffic rules during Basant.
The new plan includes additional requirements for people riding motorcycles. Both riders will need helmets when two people are travelling on one motorcycle.
Authorities will also restrict motorcycle movement in specific areas. Motorcycles and Qingqi rickshaws will not be allowed inside designated red zones.
The restrictions will apply during Basant-related activities in those areas. Traffic officials will monitor entry points and enforce the restrictions.
Motorcyclists without safety rods will also face restrictions. They will not be allowed to enter Lahore through designated entry and exit points.
The traffic police has divided the safety strategy into three phases. The first phase will focus on public awareness.
The second phase will involve implementing the announced safety measures. The final phase will focus on enforcement and compliance.
Officials are preparing the plan ahead of the festival. The measures aim to improve road safety and traffic management during Basant.
The traffic police will continue coordinating preparations before the festival begins. Citizens are expected to follow the announced safety requirements.
The authorities have also stressed the importance of helmets and protective equipment. Motorcyclists will need to comply with the rules while travelling during the festival.
The upcoming Basant preparations reflect a broader focus on public safety. Traffic officials are expected to monitor the situation throughout the celebrations.
