LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has paid Rs27.194 million for a London trip.

The payment covered expenses linked to her use of the Punjab government aircraft. The visit was described as private.

According to payment documents, Rs27,194,004 was deposited into the Punjab government’s treasury account. The payment was made on September 17, 2026.

The amount was deposited at the Valencia Branch of the National Bank of Pakistan in Lahore. A Bank of Punjab cheque was used for the payment.

The bank documents list a citizen named Umar Abbas as the depositor. The payment followed earlier government statements about the trip’s expenses.

Punjab officials had previously said Maryam Nawaz would personally bear the cost. The latest payment records show that the reported aircraft expenses were deposited into the government treasury.

The chief minister travelled to London earlier this month. She went there to attend the graduation ceremony of her daughter, Mahnoor Safdar.

The visit took place from September 5 to September 9, according to reports. She later returned to Lahore after completing the private visit.

The use of the government aircraft for a private trip had attracted political criticism. Opposition figures questioned the use of a provincial government aircraft.

Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari rejected claims that public funds would cover the trip. She said the chief minister would pay the expenses herself.

The payment now recorded in the government treasury amounts to Rs27.194 million. Reports said the aircraft expense bill was revised before the final amount was settled.

Earlier reports cited higher figures for the aircraft expenses. The amount was later revised to Rs27,194,004.

The aircraft involved is a Gulfstream G500 operated by the Punjab government. Its use has remained a subject of public and political discussion.

Opposition leaders also continued to question the decision to use the aircraft. Their criticism focused on the use of a government resource for a private journey.

The payment provides a documented record of reimbursement for the reported aircraft expenses. However, political reactions to the trip have continued.

Maryam Nawaz had earlier maintained that the London visit was private. Her government also stated that the related aircraft costs would not be charged to the public treasury.
