ISLAMABAD: The federal government has directed all power distribution companies to conduct consumer perception surveys.
The surveys will measure customer satisfaction with Electricity services provided by distribution companies.
Federal Minister for Energy Power Division Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari issued the directive during a meeting.
He instructed all distribution companies, known as DISCOs, to prepare the survey framework without delay.
The framework will include the methodology, assessment criteria and survey schedule.
The minister said the survey criteria must follow parameters established by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA).
This alignment will help ensure that consumer feedback is properly assessed and considered.
The government wants the survey findings to provide a clearer picture of customer experiences.
The results will also help authorities evaluate the performance of DISCOs across different areas.
According to the directive, the survey will examine customer satisfaction with services provided by power distribution companies.
The feedback is expected to support future policymaking in the power sector.
Leghari directed relevant authorities to complete the approval process as soon as possible.
The aim is to start the survey without unnecessary delays.
The government has also decided that the survey will be conducted every six months.
The annual schedule must include at least one survey during the summer season.
This timing will allow authorities to collect feedback during a period of high power demand.
Summer months often place additional pressure on power distribution systems and consumer services.
The minister described the exercise as more than a routine administrative requirement.
He said it reflects the government’s focus on consumer welfare and service improvement.
The survey is expected to identify areas where DISCO services require further improvement.
It may also help authorities understand recurring concerns faced by electricity consumers.
Leghari encouraged consumers to provide honest and accurate feedback during the survey process.
He said consumer input could help improve institutional performance.
The feedback could also support more transparent and informed decisions in the power sector.
The government expects DISCOs to take the survey process seriously.
Consumer responses will provide additional information for assessing service delivery.
The initiative comes as authorities continue efforts to improve public services in the power sector.
Regular surveys could provide policymakers with updated information about consumer satisfaction.
The six-monthly schedule will also allow DISCOs to track changes in customer feedback.
Authorities will be able to compare responses across different periods.
The process is expected to strengthen consumer participation in discussions about Electricity services.
It will also provide policymakers with feedback when considering future reforms.
The government has instructed the relevant departments to move forward with the process promptly.
