A case has been registered following the deadly attack at the old Kohat Police Lines, officials said.
The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) registered the FIR against unknown terrorists after the incident.
Police said the case was filed following a complaint from the SHO of Kohat City Police Station.
The FIR includes charges related to terrorism, murder and attempted murder. Other relevant legal sections have also been included.
FIR Details Kohat Police Lines Attack
According to the FIR, the attackers targeted the mosque located inside the old Police Lines.
The FIR attributes the attack to terrorists described by authorities as belonging to “Fitna al-Khawarij.”
Police said an explosives-laden vehicle was used during the attack. Gunfire reportedly followed the initial explosion.
According to the FIR, the attackers used a route leading towards the mosque to enter the Police Lines.
They allegedly opened indiscriminate fire after entering the premises. Grenades were also used during the assault.
Police personnel and civilians were among those who suffered casualties during the attack.
Security Forces Respond to Attack
Police personnel present at the site responded to the attackers, according to officials.
Personnel from the Pakistan Army, police and CTD also reached the area following the incident. Security personnel then conducted an operation at the site.
According to the FIR, 21 people were killed during the suicide attack, firing and grenade assaults.
A large number of people were also injured in the incident. The attack also caused damage to government and privately owned property.
Investigation Into Kohat Police Lines Attack Underway
Authorities have launched a further investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack.
Investigators are working to identify those responsible and determine whether others helped facilitate the incident.
Police said efforts are underway to arrest the unknown terrorists named in the FIR. Authorities are also searching for suspected facilitators who may have assisted the attackers.
The Kohat Police Lines attack has prompted an investigation by counterterrorism authorities.
Officials are expected to examine available evidence as part of the investigation. The FIR provides the initial police account of how the attack unfolded.
