Security preparations have increased ahead of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) long march. The march is planned for September 27.
The Punjab government has requested additional security support from the federal government. Authorities are seeking Rangers and army personnel for several key districts.
According to sources, the Punjab Home Department has requested Rangers for Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum and Mianwali. The provincial government has also asked for army personnel in Rawalpindi.
The requested security support is expected to continue until October 5. This period covers the days before and after the planned PTI march.
The Punjab government is taking steps to maintain law and order during the political activity. Security arrangements were also discussed by the Punjab Cabinet’s Standing Committee on Law and Justice.
The request comes amid preparations for possible large gatherings and traffic disruptions. Authorities are working to strengthen security in sensitive areas.
Islamabad Police have also requested additional personnel from other provinces. The capital police have sought 18,000 personnel from Punjab and Sindh.
The request includes 16,000 personnel from Punjab Police. Another 2,000 personnel have been requested from Sindh Police.
The Islamabad Police have also asked for senior officers to strengthen their command structure. The request includes three deputy inspectors general, or DIGs.
It also seeks seven senior superintendents of police, known as SSPs. In addition, 18 superintendents of police, or SPs, have been requested.
These officers would support security operations during the period surrounding the PTI march. Their deployment would help coordinate personnel across different areas.
The Punjab government’s request for Rangers and army support is part of wider preparations. Additional forces could be deployed in areas considered important for maintaining public order.
Rawalpindi and Attock are expected to receive particular attention because of their location. These areas are important routes between Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Mianwali and Jhelum are also included in the Rangers request. The proposed arrangements cover multiple districts instead of focusing on Islamabad alone.
Meanwhile, Islamabad is preparing for a separate security challenge. The capital is expected to receive thousands of additional police personnel from other provinces.
The additional manpower would increase the number of officers available for security duties. Senior command officers would also assist with operational planning.
With September 27 approaching, security agencies are expanding their preparations. More personnel are being requested to manage possible law-and-order challenges.
The Punjab government has sought support until October 5. Meanwhile, Islamabad Police are preparing their own reinforcement plan.
The deployment requests reflect the authorities’ preparations for the expected political activity. Further security decisions will depend on the situation and official instructions.
