A three-year-old girl, Sakina, was found dead in Islamabad after going missing from Jhangi Syedan. Police arrested her brother-in-law, Kashif, in connection with the case.
The child reportedly disappeared on September 22 while playing outside her home. Her mother noticed she was missing around 2pm. The family initially searched the surrounding area before contacting police later that night.
Police formed seven teams to locate the missing girl. Investigators searched nearby deserted areas and questioned local residents. Officials believed the child may have gone with someone familiar to her.
A major breakthrough came through CCTV footage from nearby Shams Town. The footage was reportedly recorded around 2:15pm. It allegedly showed Sakina walking with a young man through a nearby street.
Police later identified the man as Kashif, the husband of Sakina’s elder sister. According to police, Kashif had also joined search teams looking for the missing child. He was reportedly not initially considered a suspect.
Investigators questioned Kashif after reviewing the CCTV footage. Police said his responses raised further questions during the investigation. Officials also noted an apparent difference in his clothing between the footage and the search operation.
Police later arrested Kashif and recovered Sakina’s body from a rainwater drain near Jhangi Syedan. The recovery was reportedly made after information provided by the suspect. Police said the child’s body was found without clothing.
According to police, the suspect allegedly sexually assaulted the child before strangling her. Investigators further alleged that he feared she would tell her family about the alleged assault.
Police said they recovered clothing allegedly worn by the suspect at the time. They also claimed that a drawstring from an old shalwar was used in the alleged strangulation.
The case in Islamabad was initially registered after Sakina was reported missing. Murder-related charges have since been added, according to police. The suspect has been placed on a five-day physical remand.
A post-mortem examination was conducted before the child’s body was handed over to her family. Police said DNA and other samples have been sent for forensic analysis.
Authorities said further investigation is underway. Police are examining different aspects of the case and gathering forensic evidence. The findings will help establish the circumstances surrounding Sakina’s death.
