KARACHI – Police in Surjani Town have arrested a man over an alleged incident involving a female seminary student.
According to SSP West, police identified the suspect as Najaf Ali. Officials said the incident happened on a street in the area.
The seminary student was reportedly wearing a veil at the time. She was travelling toward a madrasa when the alleged incident occurred.
Police said CCTV footage of the incident later surfaced. Officials claimed the footage showed the suspect allegedly touching the student inappropriately.
According to police, the suspect left the area after the alleged incident. Surjani Town police then began an investigation into the matter.
Police later traced and arrested Najaf Ali in connection with the case. Further legal proceedings are expected as the investigation continues.
Authorities have not disclosed further details about the evidence. The allegations against the suspect have not been established by a court.
The case has drawn attention to concerns about the safety of students travelling to educational institutions. Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Separate Incident in Shah Latif Town
In a separate case, police arrested an armed suspect in Shah Latif Town. The arrest followed an alleged exchange of fire near Radio Pakistan ground.
SSP Malir identified the suspect as Khalid Mahmood. Police said he is the son of Ali Hassan.
Officials said a video had surfaced on social media several days earlier. Police alleged that the video showed Mahmood engaging in inappropriate conduct with a young girl.
Police later arrested Mahmood in an injured condition following the exchange of fire. He was shifted to a hospital for medical treatment.
According to police, authorities recovered an illegal weapon from the suspect. Ammunition, spent shells and cash were also reportedly recovered.
Police said the suspect provided information during questioning. He reportedly told authorities that he was married and had two children.
He also reportedly said he arrived in Karachi on the first day of the month. According to the information provided by police, he acknowledged wrongdoing.
The suspect also reportedly told authorities that he would not repeat the alleged conduct. Police are continuing their investigation into both incidents.
