HYDERABAD: Three people were injured after a pole-mounted transformer of Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) exploded on Saturday.

The incident occurred on Khai Road within the limits of the City Police Station. Rescue officials said the transformer first caught fire before a powerful explosion occurred.

Burning oil reportedly spilled from the transformer after the blast. Several people nearby were affected by the flames.

The fire also spread to a nearby Dhaba hotel. Five vehicles and motorcycles parked close to the transformer were damaged in the incident.

Three people suffered injuries during the incident. Rescue teams reached the location after receiving information from local residents.

The injured people were shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Officials said their condition was out of danger.

Rescue teams continued firefighting operations for around two hours. They eventually brought the fire under control.

The transformer explosion also raised concerns about the response from the power utility. Rescue officials said HESCO teams were informed about the incident.

However, they alleged that HESCO staff did not reach the site in time. The delay reportedly occurred while the fire was still spreading in the area.

HESCO spokesperson Mohammad Sadiq Kubar responded to the allegations. He said action would be taken against officials found responsible for negligence.

He said the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) would initiate appropriate action. The relevant officials may face proceedings following an inquiry into the incident.

The incident caused damage to nearby property and vehicles. It also created concern among residents and people present near the transformer.

Authorities are expected to examine the cause of the transformer fire and subsequent explosion. Further action could follow after the responsible departments review the incident.

The incident comes as safety concerns around electrical infrastructure remain important in populated areas. Transformers are often located near shops, roads, and other public places.
