Only three candidates have passed the written examination for 105 judicial posts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Public Service Commission announced the results after 1,024 candidates appeared in the written test.
The Civil Judge Exam was conducted for civil judge-cum-judicial magistrate and Alaqa Qazi positions. These posts fall under BPS-18.
The Peshawar High Court advertised 105 vacancies in April 2026. A total of 3,097 applications were received for these positions.
Eligible applicants were provisionally permitted to appear in the written examination.
Only Three Candidates Qualify
According to the announced results, only three candidates qualified for the next stage.
They are Saba Rasool from South Waziristan, Abdullah Noor from Bajaur, and Sayed Zahid Hussain from Mardan.
The Civil Judge Exam covered several language, general knowledge, and law subjects. These included English, Urdu, Pashto, Civil Law, Criminal Law, Islamic Jurisprudence, and General Knowledge.
The examination also covered Qanun-e-Shahadat and Pleadings.
The English General and Essay paper appeared particularly challenging. Only 149 of 1,024 candidates passed this paper. The Pashto General and Essay paper recorded a much higher pass rate. Of 340 candidates, 335 cleared the paper.
In Urdu General and Essay, 369 candidates passed out of 654.
The General Knowledge paper also proved difficult. A total of 687 candidates failed out of 1,005 who appeared.
Performance in Law Papers
Results varied across the law subjects included in the examination. In Civil Law-I, 587 of 996 candidates passed. Meanwhile, 537 candidates cleared Civil Law-II.
Criminal Law recorded a stronger result. Of 996 candidates, 803 successfully passed the paper.
The Islamic Jurisprudence paper was cleared by 697 of 993 candidates. Meanwhile, 775 of 995 candidates passed the Qanun-e-Shahadat 1984 and Pleadings paper.
The commission has asked all three successful candidates to submit signed documents within 15 days.
Candidates can also request re-totaling if they believe their marks were incorrectly counted.
KP Bar Council Questions Results
The results of the Civil Judge Exam have also drawn concerns from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council.
The council described the outcome as alarming and raised questions about the examination and evaluation process. It linked its concerns to the existing shortage of judges and the backlog of cases in the province.
The council urged the Peshawar High Court chief justice to review the matter.
It requested scrutiny of the examination process, marking standards, and final results.The council also called for greater transparency in future judicial recruitment.
It suggested that future appointments should be handled through the Peshawar High Court.
The council cited the recruitment system used for additional district and sessions judges as an example.
