The Higher Education Commission has announced a new research opportunity for PhD scholars from Pakistan and AJK.
The Quaid-e-Azam Memorial Fellowship will provide selected scholars with six months of research experience abroad.
The programme marks the 150th birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. It aims to promote academic research on his ideas, leadership, legacy, and contributions to Pakistan.
Applications opened on October 6, 2026. The deadline for online applications is October 30, 2026.
Quaid-e-Azam Memorial Fellowship Research Areas
HEC is seeking research proposals focusing on different aspects of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
Research can examine his vision, political ideas, leadership, and statesmanship. Scholars can also explore his social and constitutional thought, ideals, legacy, and historical contributions.
The proposed research should align with the objectives of the Quaid-e-Azam Memorial Fellowship. Selected scholars will conduct their research at an eligible foreign university, institute, or laboratory.
The research visit will last six months.
Who Can Apply for the Fellowship?
Applicants must be Pakistani or AJK nationals.
They must also be enrolled as full-time PhD students at a recognised university in Pakistan.
Candidates must have completed at least 18 credit hours of their PhD coursework. They should also have completed at least 18 months of PhD enrolment.
However, their enrolment period must not exceed 3.5 years when applying. Applicants should also meet the specific PhD enrolment period mentioned by HEC for the current batch.
Test and Research Requirements
Candidates must have passed the GAT Subject Test or their university’s PhD admission test.
Applicants should keep documentary evidence of the relevant test result.
They must also have an approved PhD research topic and synopsis. The required academic authorities at the applicant’s university must have approved the research proposal.
Candidates should obtain recommendations and other necessary documents from their university and PhD supervisor.
Foreign University Acceptance Required
Applicants must secure an official acceptance or invitation from an eligible foreign institution before applying.
The host can be a university, research institute, or laboratory with a strong international academic ranking.
This requirement allows scholars to undertake part of their doctoral research in an international academic environment.
Financial Support for Selected Scholars
The Quaid-e-Azam Memorial Fellowship also provides financial assistance for the overseas research period.
HEC will provide airfare support of up to $1,300 for a return economy ticket.
Selected scholars will also receive a monthly allowance based on their destination country.
Eligible bench fee expenses can also be reimbursed under the fellowship’s rules.
