Pakistan Navy has seized 2,850 kilograms of drugs worth approximately $96 million during two operations in the Arabian Sea.

The military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), confirmed the seizures on Wednesday.

Pakistan Navy Ship YARMOOK intercepted two traditional sailing vessels, commonly known as dhows, during separate counternarcotics operations.

Both vessels were operating far from Pakistan’s coastline when naval personnel stopped them for inspection.

Pakistan Navy Recovers Ice, Hashish and Cannabis

According to ISPR, naval personnel discovered large quantities of narcotics hidden inside specially concealed compartments aboard the vessels.

The recovered substances included approximately 850 kilograms of ice, a form of methamphetamine.

The remaining 2,000 kilograms consisted of hashish and cannabis.

The combined weight of the seized drugs reached 2,850 kilograms, with an estimated international market value of $96 million.

The operation highlighted the Pakistan Navy’s continued efforts to prevent illegal narcotics shipments through regional waters.

Seized Narcotics to Be Handed Over to Authorities

ISPR stated that the recovered narcotics had been taken into custody following the successful interceptions.

The seized materials will be transferred to the relevant authorities for further legal proceedings and disposal.

The military did not provide additional details about the vessels’ destinations or the identities of those involved.

Further action will be handled by the responsible authorities under applicable laws and procedures.

Arabian Sea Remains a Major Maritime Trafficking Route

The Arabian Sea connects important international shipping routes across South Asia, the Middle East and the wider Indian Ocean.

These maritime routes are also used by criminal networks attempting to transport illegal narcotics between countries.

Smugglers sometimes use traditional sailing vessels to move prohibited substances across international waters.

Maritime security forces regularly conduct patrols and inspections to identify suspicious vessels and prevent illegal shipments.

Pakistan Navy Continues Counternarcotics Operations

The latest seizure follows another major counternarcotics operation reported by the Pakistan Navy in September 2026.

During that operation, Pakistan Navy ships HUNAIN and YARMOOK reportedly recovered more than 2,800 kilograms of narcotics.

The earlier shipment was valued at approximately $750 million, according to the Navy’s reported figures.

Both operations demonstrate the importance of maritime surveillance in tackling cross-border narcotics trafficking.

The Pakistan Navy continues to conduct security operations aimed at protecting maritime routes and disrupting illegal activities at sea.
