RIYADH, Saudi Arabia: Three people were killed and 10 others injured in separate attacks targeting King Fahd International Airport in Dammam and Saudi Aramco’s Shaybah oil field, according to Saudi authorities.
The incidents occurred on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, in the Kingdom’s Eastern Province. The attacks caused casualties and property damage, while Saudi air defence forces continued intercepting drones approaching the country.
According to the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) and the Ministry of Energy, emergency teams responded to both incidents. Authorities also began assessing the damage caused by the airport attack.
The Ministry of Energy said the incident at Shaybah did not affect the oil field’s operations.
Attack on King Fahd International Airport in Dammam
King Fahd International Airport was targeted on Wednesday evening, resulting in one death and injuries to eight other people, according to Saudi Arabia’s civil aviation authority.
GACA confirmed that the deceased was an expatriate resident. The injured individuals suffered injuries ranging from minor to serious.
Emergency response teams transported the injured to hospitals for medical treatment. Officials also reported material damage at the airport and began assessing its extent.
Further details about the damaged infrastructure were not immediately available in the reported statement.
The incident added to security concerns surrounding Saudi Arabia’s civil aviation facilities as the country faced further drone threats.
Drone Interception at Saudi Aramco’s Shaybah Oil Field
Separately, Saudi air defence systems intercepted a drone attempting to target a facility at Saudi Aramco’s Shaybah oil field in the Eastern Province.
Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Energy said the interception resulted in falling debris that caused a fire in a contractor’s vehicle outside the facility’s perimeter.
Two foreign workers died in the incident. The ministry identified them as nationals of the Philippines and Nepal.
Two other workers, a Pakistani national and an Indian national, sustained injuries.
Relevant authorities responded to the incident and implemented emergency and safety measures, according to the ministry.
The reported fatalities and injuries at Shaybah brought the combined toll from the two incidents to three deaths and 10 injuries.
Saudi Air Defences Intercept Drones
Saudi air defence forces also intercepted and destroyed four drones over the Eastern Province, according to Major General Turki Al-Maliki, spokesperson for the coalition supporting Yemen’s internationally recognised government.
The interceptions were reported amid heightened security concerns following the incidents at the airport and oil facility.
Authorities have not publicly established responsibility for the two attacks in the reports cited here.
Shaybah Oil Field Operations Remain Unaffected
Despite the incident, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Energy confirmed that operations at the Shaybah oil field continued normally.
The ministry reported no disruption to the facility’s operational activities following the drone interception and the fire involving the contractor’s vehicle.
Shaybah is an important Saudi Aramco oil field located in the Empty Quarter in southeastern Saudi Arabia, near the border with the United Arab Emirates.
The incident raised concerns about the security of critical energy infrastructure, although officials reported no operational impact at the site.
The Ministry of Energy also expressed condolences to the families of those who died and wished the injured workers a speedy recovery.
Investigation Continues After Saudi Arabia Attacks
The attacks on King Fahd International Airport and the Shaybah oil field resulted in casualties among expatriate residents and workers in Saudi Arabia.
While airport authorities reported damage and hospitalised casualties, the Energy Ministry confirmed that oil field operations remained unaffected.
Saudi authorities responded to both incidents and reported additional drone interceptions over the Eastern Province.
Further information about the perpetrators, the full extent of the airport damage and any subsequent investigation findings had not been confirmed in the cited reports.
