Iran has offered to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within two days if the United States accepts its conditions. Tehran previously proposed a seven-day timeline for restoring shipping through the strategic waterway. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei announced the offer on Monday. He described the shorter timeline as another sign of Iran’s willingness to reach an agreement.

Baqaei said Iran could restore security in the Strait of Hormuz if its demands were accepted. He added that negotiations could also resume within a short period. However, he stressed that progress depended on Washington’s response. The spokesperson confirmed that messages were being exchanged with the United States through mediators. He said further discussions would only begin after Washington accepted Iran’s conditions.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a major route for international energy shipments. Since the Middle East conflict began in late February, Iran has claimed control over the waterway. It has also targeted vessels attempting to cross without its authorisation.

In response, the United States imposed a naval blockade on Iranian ports. The restrictions have added to tensions between the two countries. Iran had earlier presented a seven-day proposal through Qatar in September. Under that plan, Tehran would reopen the strait on the sixth day. This would happen after the United States met its demands.

Iran’s conditions include ending the Middle East conflict across all fronts. Tehran has also demanded the release of frozen Iranian assets held abroad. Other demands include lifting sanctions on its oil sector and ending the US naval blockade.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi outlined additional conditions in an interview with Al Jazeera. He said Washington must accept a new transit arrangement agreed between Iran and Oman. The proposed route concerns shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

Araghchi also called for the removal of recently imposed sanctions. He further demanded a reduction in American military personnel stationed in the region. The United States has introduced additional sanctions against Iran since August. Washington described its measures as part of an economic pressure campaign.

Meanwhile, threats of renewed military action have increased tensions. The United States and Israel have recently warned about possible attacks against Iran. US President Donald Trump also mentioned potential targets in Iran. On Saturday, he referred to Pickaxe Mountain in central Iran. The location is suspected by some to be a nuclear site, although Tehran denies this claim.

Baqaei warned that any military attack against Iran would trigger a strong response. He said Tehran would respond immediately and comprehensively to any act of aggression. The proposed reopening of the Strait of Hormuz now depends on negotiations. Iran says it is prepared to restore shipping within two days if Washington accepts its conditions. However, no agreement has been confirmed.
