Pakistani pacer Haris Rauf found himself in the spotlight for an unfortunate record during the ODI World Cup 2023 match between Pakistan and Australia.
Rauf conceded the fastest 50 runs in the history of ODI World Cups, doing so in just 21 balls. This marked the fastest ‘half-century’ ever conceded by a bowler in World Cup history.
Rauf’s record-breaking feat surpassed the previous record of 22 balls held jointly by Ian Butchart of Zimbabwe against New Zealand in 1992 and Australia’s Mitchell Johnson against New Zealand in 2015.

It’s worth noting that while Haris Rauf’s performance in conceding 50 runs in 21 balls was a World Cup record, the overall record for the fastest 50 runs conceded in men’s ODIs still belongs to Ravi Rampaul, who accomplished this feat in 17 balls during a rain-shortened game against New Zealand in Queenstown in 2014.
In the match, the Australian batters played aggressively, amassing a formidable total of 367 runs, making it a challenging target for Pakistan to chase, which they ultimately failed to achieve.
