US-Turkish Protester Dies in West Bank Israeli Shooting

A 26-year-old US-Turkish woman, Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, was killed by Israeli forces during a protest against Jewish settlement expansion in Beita, West Bank. Eygi, who held dual nationality, was participating in her first demonstration with the International Solidarity Movement when she was shot. The IDF stated they are investigating the incident, which involved a response to violent activity.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan condemned the incident, with Turkey’s foreign ministry accusing Israeli soldiers of the killing. The White House called for an investigation, and the US State Department is seeking more details. Eygi was rushed to a hospital but was pronounced dead from a gunshot wound.

Israeli activist Jonathan Pollak, who was present at the protest, described Eygi’s condition after the shooting, stating she was bleeding from her head and had a weak pulse. Pollak questioned the IDF’s claim that the forces were responding to a threat, suggesting that Eygi was not involved in any violent activity.

The IDF’s review of the incident continues, focusing on the circumstances and response of the forces involved. On the same day, Israeli forces withdrew from Jenin after a nine-day operation, which resulted in numerous casualties. The international community continues to debate the legality of Israeli settlements in the West Bank, which are widely considered illegal under international law.
