Pakistan women’s cricket team captain Fatima Sana has been fined by the International Cricket Council (ICC). The penalty follows a Level 1 breach during the Women’s Asia Cup match against India.
The incident happened after Fatima Sana dismissed Indian batter Shafali Verma. The Pakistan captain reportedly made a gesture towards the pavilion following the dismissal.
The ICC considered the gesture a violation of its code of conduct. As a result, Fatima Sana was fined 10 percent of her match fee.
She was also given one demerit point for the offence. The Pakistan captain admitted to the violation, according to the ICC.
Her admission meant that no formal hearing was required. The latest penalty has now taken her total demerit points to two.
Fatima Sana had previously received one demerit point in August 2025. That incident occurred during a T20 International against Ireland in Dublin.
The latest disciplinary action comes after Pakistan suffered a heavy defeat against India. Pakistan won the toss and decided to bat first in the Asia Cup encounter.
However, the Pakistani batting lineup struggled against India’s bowling attack. The team was dismissed for just 55 runs in 18.1 overs.
India then chased the target comfortably. The Indian team reached the required score in only 8.4 overs.
India lost three wickets during the chase. The result gave Pakistan a setback in their Asia Cup campaign.
Despite the loss, Pakistan still remain in contention for a place in the semi-finals. The national team is scheduled to face Hong Kong in its next match.
A victory against Hong Kong would secure Pakistan’s place in the last four. The team will therefore look to recover quickly from its defeat against India.
The ICC fine adds another disciplinary issue for the Pakistan captain during the tournament. Fatima Sana will now have two demerit points recorded against her over the past 24 months.
The points system can lead to further sanctions if additional breaches occur within the relevant period. Pakistan will now focus on its upcoming match and qualification hopes.
