Chief Minister Forms Committee to Investigate Sexual Assault Allegations at Lahore College

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has formed a seven-member committee to investigate the alleged sexual assault of a student at a college in Lahore. The committee, led by Punjab’s Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman, is tasked with conducting a thorough investigation and submitting its findings within 48 hours.

This decision comes after widespread protests erupted at the college following reports of the incident, which gained attention on social media. The demonstrations escalated into clashes between students, police, and security guards, resulting in several injuries.

In a statement issued by the family of the alleged victim, her father and uncle denied the assault claims, stating that she had sustained a back injury after a fall at home, leading to her admission to the ICU.DIG Operations Faisal Kamran confirmed that a security guard accused of the crime has been taken into custody. However, the details surrounding the incident remain unclear, and the investigation is ongoing.

Earlier reports suggested that the security guard at a private college in Lahore’s Gulberg area allegedly assaulted a first-year student in the college’s basement. The guard reportedly fled after the victim raised an alarm, but was later arrested in Sialkot after a series of raids by law enforcement.

The police spokesperson confirmed the arrest, stating that all available resources were used to locate and capture the suspect. Investigations are continuing, and efforts are being made to ensure the victim and her family receive the necessary support.

In a separate tragic incident, a student at Punjab University was found dead in her hostel room, with police investigating the circumstances of her death. The 22-year-old student of International Relations was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her room. Her family has chosen not to pursue legal action. Investigating Officer Nabeela Kausar noted that the post-mortem report will be essential in understanding the events leading to her death, while DIG Operations Lahore, Muhammad Faisal Kamran, has requested a detailed report on the case.
