Alia Bhatt’s latest film, Jigra, is on track to become her lowest-grossing release to date, following a disappointing box office performance. The drama, which debuted on October 11, has only managed to collect around $2.7 million in its first week, hampered by controversies and negative reviews.
Directed by Vasan Bala, Jigra explores sibling bonds and features a talented cast, including Vedang Raina. Despite initial optimism and the advantage of the Dussehra holiday, the film failed to resonate with audiences. It opened with $550,000 and saw a slight increase over the first weekend, reaching $2 million, but daily earnings quickly fell below $240,000. By the second Friday, the film had only made $150,000, indicating a sharp decline in interest.

Trade expert Sumit Kadel predicts that Jigra will finish its theatrical run with total earnings of around $3.4 million, placing it among Alia Bhatt’s least successful films.
Currently, Bhatt’s lowest-grossing film is Highway (2014), which earned $3.7 million. Given the current trajectory of Jigra, it could surpass Highway as her least successful film.
While Alia Bhatt has generally been a box office draw, with eight out of her 17 theatrical releases grossing over $12 million domestically, the reception of Jigra raises questions about audience engagement and the film’s overall appeal.
