Unlike the series, which premiered on Amazon Prime, the film will first hit theaters in 2026, offering fans an exclusive eight-week cinematic run before its streaming release. In a teaser clip, Akhtar hinted at a bigger, more powerful storyline with the return of Munna Tripathi, played by Divyendu Sharma, despite his character’s dramatic exit in Season 2.

The film’s ensemble cast features Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyendu Sharma, and Abhishek Banerjee, with the storyline penned by series writer Puneet Krishna. Mirzapur: The Film promises to expand the gritty world of crime and power set in the Purvanchal region of Uttar Pradesh, which first captivated viewers in 2018.
